Almost 10,000 passports were issued in Donegal this year so far.
Figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show over half a million Irish passports were issued in the first half of 2026, 9,891.
It comes as the passport office is going to send out reminders to let people know when they need to renew their passports for the first time ever.
The service will begin next year, but only for people applying for first-time passports and those seeking renewals.
Due to data protection rules, the change will only apply to ones issued from 2027.
It comes as people are being urged to check the expiry dates on their passports, to make sure upcoming travel plans go smoothly.
