Abuse towards Tusla staff almost doubled

Reports of abuse and violence towards Tusla staff have almost doubled to over 2,200 last year.

The abuse has been directed in person, over the phone, and online and the agency says it is increasing in severity.

The Irish Independent reports that social workers and other staff members have reported almost 1,200 incidents so far this year.

There are concerns that the number of incidents is much higher, but staff will often choose not to report it, due to how normalised certain levels of aggression are within the sector.
