Letterkenny University Hospital was the third most overcrowded hospital in Ireland last month, with 730 patients admitted without an available bed.
University Hospital Limerick recorded the highest figure at 1,784, followed by Cork University Hospital at 830.
The figures have been released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
It was the worst August on record for hospital overcrowding.
