The Social Democrats has moved a Dail motion calling for energy companies to be taxed on their rising profits.
Energia, Bord Gais Energy and SSE Airtricity are increasing their gas and electricity prices from next month.
It follows a rise in energy prices globally, linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.
