Concerns have been raised over the pressure on ambulance services in Donegal, with crews from neighbouring counties regularly being called into the county.
New figures show that from January to August this year, National Ambulance Service crews brought 8,887 patients to Letterkenny University Hospital’s Emergency Department an increase on the same period last year.
At last week’s Regional Health Forum, the HSE said additional resources are being introduced in Donegal, including an extra Sunday ambulance service in Killybegs.
But Sinn Féin councillor Gerry McMonagle says while that is welcome, more needs to be done to provide ambulance cover within Donegal and reduce the reliance on crews from other counties.
