The government has an Exchequer surplus of €2.4 billion in advance of Budget Day on Tuesday.
The figure, at the end of September, is an increase of €0.9 billion year-on-year.
However, when the 2025 revenues which arose from the EU Apple Tax ruling are excluded, that’s an increase in the underlying Exchequer balance of €4.2 billion – largely due to strong tax growth.
Tax revenue at the end of September stood at €78.9 billion, which was up 10.7% on the same period last year.
Total expenditure was €93.7 billion.
