Over 1,100 Donegal customers without power as further strong winds forecast

More than 1,100 homes and businesses across Donegal remain without electricity this morning, with further strong winds forecast later today.

Figures from ESB Networks’ PowerCheck service, recorded at approximately 10:09am, show 1,138 customers affected by listed faults across the county.

A new fault reported in Derrybeg this morning is affecting 334 customers.

Restoration work is continuing, with many customers given an estimated return time of 6pm. However, some outages still show restoration estimates that expired yesterday.

The latest breakdown of reported outages is as follows:

  • Derrybeg: 348 customers affected. Supply is expected to return to 14 customers by 4pm and a further 334 by 6pm.
  • Carndonagh: 138 customers affected. Restoration is estimated for 56 customers by 6pm and 18 by 8pm. A further 64 still show an expired estimate from yesterday.
  • Ballymacarry: 87 customers affected, with restoration estimated for 6pm.
  • Buncrana: 86 customers affected, with restoration estimated for 6pm.
  • Glenties: 76 customers affected. Supply is expected to return to 17 customers by noon and 59 by 6pm.

  • Bundoran: 21 customers affected, with restoration estimated for 6pm.
  • Gweedore: 14 customers affected, with restoration estimated for 5pm.

ESB Networks’ restoration times are estimates and may change as crews assess and repair faults.

An expired restoration estimate does not necessarily mean electricity has been restored.

The figures may not represent the full extent of outages across Donegal, as PowerCheck normally displays faults affecting more than 10 properties. Smaller outages and individual supply interruptions may not be included.

Yellow wind warning for Donegal

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, effective from 5pm today until midnight.

Very strong and gusty south to southwest winds are forecast, with possible fallen branches, displaced debris, large coastal waves and difficult travelling conditions.

Monday is expected to be wet and breezy, with rain and winds strengthening as the day progresses.

Conditions are forecast to improve overnight as winds ease.

The warning comes as ESB Networks crews and support staff continue working to restore electricity following the recent unsettled weather.

Customers are advised that outage figures and estimated restoration times may change throughout the day.

The locations listed are those identified by ESB Networks on PowerCheck and may include surrounding rural areas rather than just the named towns.
