Doherty double earns Derry draw in Sligo

Derry City ended their Premier Division campaign with a 2-2 draw at the Sligo Showgrounds on Friday night.

The Candystrips had to come from behind to get a share of the spoils against the already relegated ‘Bit of Red’.

Ryan O’Kane and Gary McEvoy scored for the hosts in the first half but Sligo were reduced to ten men when
Kaiyne Woolery was given his marching orders with a straight red three minutes into the second half.

Derry pushed hard to get back in the game and teenage striker Terence Doherty bagged a brace in a five minutes spell between the 77th and 82nd minute to get back on level terms.

Derry’s season isn’t done just yet with the small matter of an FAI Cup Final to come next weekend against Waterford.

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers drew another league title winning campaign to a close with a 3-1 defeat away to Dundalk.

Bohemians have finished in second ahead of St Pat’s following their 2-3 win against their Dublin rivals at Richmond Park.

In the other games, Drogheda United won 2-0 against Galway United, and Shelbourne lost 2-3 to Waterford.

Those results mean Drogheda will play the winner of Bray Wanderers and UCD in the Promotion/Relegation play off.
