It’s been confirmed that five beds will reopen at Dungloe Hospital from Monday of next week. Five more remain closed after the total number was reduced from 35 to 25 in May.
After a public meeting in Dungloe over the summer, a deputation met with the HSE management to make a case for the reopening of the beds.
It subsequently emerged that following discussions between management and unions, half the beds could be restored, but North West MEP Pat The Cope Gallagher says reopening the rest will require a relaxation of the recruitment embargo.
He says Junior Gaeltacht Minister Dinny Mc Ginley has promised to facilitate an early meeting with the Health Minister so that can be discussed…………
