Benny Mullen wins Donegal Marathon

Donegal MarathonBenny Mullen of Inishowen AC was the first man home in the Donegal Marathon which took place in Letterkenny today.
The event – the first of its kind to be staged in the county in 31 years – proved a tremendous success with over 800 competitors taking part.
Large crowds turned out to cheer on those competing in the half and full marathons.
Moville man Benny Mullen’s winning time was 2.56.51 (unofficial).
In second place was Philip Rainey (3.01.40). Philip is a native of Letterkenny but is based in Athlone and is a member of the Defence Forces. The race was his 47th marathon event.
In third was Letterkenny man, Kevin Wallace (3.02.25).
The first three female finishers were Joeleen Mellon (North East AC), Caroline Kelly and Gillian Cordner, Carrickfergus.
Joeleen’s winning time was 3.31.30.
The first man home in the half marathon was Letterkenny AC’s Michael Black who crossed the finish line at the Aura Leisure Centre just before 11.30am in a time of 1.17.09.
In second was Gary Crossan and third was Noel Diver of Rosses AC.
Maria McCambridge was first woman home in the half marathon in a time of 1.24.13.
