A Donegal Councillor says with the controversial levy for foreign trucks coming into effect in Northern Ireland on Monday, the government here must do more to have hauliers from Donegal exempted.
There have been suggestions that some roads, particularly the A5 might be excluded from the new levy, but as it stands, each Donegal truck crossing the border from Monday will have to pay a £10 charge, even if they are only travelling from Strabane to Aughnacloy and then crossing back into the Republic.
Some Donegal hauliers say they will move their operations into the North because of this and the level of motor tax here, and Cllr John O’Donnell says more needs to be done to address this issue……….
