Co-operating for Cancer Care NorthWest, is urging women in Donegal to avail of free smear tests under the Cervical Check programme.
The programme was rolled out in 2008, but from last year, women were only tested after receiving letters of invitation. However, CCC-NW say this led to some confusion, and fears that some women who needed a test might not get it because they were not on the system.
GPs and health centres argued that they effectively lost the opportunity to offer women a cervical test at their own discretion.
Noelle Duddy of CCC-NW says the situation is now much improved.
