Man rescued from Derryveagh Mountains after getting lost in fog

A man has been rescued from the Derryveagh Mountains in West Donegal.

Search crews spent over 12 hours at the weekend looking for the local man in his 40s after he lost his way while walking in the Glenveagh region.

At around 3pm on Saturday afternoon, the man phoned the emergency services when the mountains became shrouded in fog and mist. Several search crews and members of his family, led by the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team, continued searching until he was located before 5am yesterday morning.

A helicopter could not be tasked to help with the search because of the foggy conditions.

When he was located he was described as being cold and tired but otherwise in good health
