Soccer – Another Night Of First Division Draws

League Or Ireland First Division Results
Wexford Youths 1 v 1 Derry City
Finn Harps 2 v 2 Athlone Town
Derry City’s lead at the top of the First Division has been cut to one point after Friday night’s draw at Ferrycarrig. James McClean gave the Candystripes the perfect start with the opening goal after 10 minutes. Wexford hit back to equalise through a Gary Sheahan strike 10 minutes into the second half. Second-placed Monaghan United increased the pressure on Derry with a 4-2 home victory over Waterford United.
It was a frustrating night at Finn Park as the home side struggled to another draw against battling Athlone Town on Friday night. Harps can count themselves fortunate to have taken anything from this game after finding themselves 2-0 down after only 17 minutes. But they fought back with goals from Stephen McLaughlin and Kevin McHugh and despite playing well below their best, almost snatched a win at the end. Harps were unable to take the game on from there and despite playing much better in the second half, they never really tested Athlone as much as they would have liked – although Crossan was ever so close to what would have been a dramatic winner at the death
