Further restrictions on Lough Mourne supply

The following is a statement received this evening from Donegal County Council –
Lough Mourne Water Supply Update – 17th December 2010.
Water supplies throughout the Lough Mourne network are under severe strain due to the current weather conditions and

Donegal County Council wish to inform the public that the following reservoirs in the Stranorlar Electoral Area will be turned off on Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of December from 7.30pm until 8.00am each night to allow these reservoirs build up. This practice will ensure that the majority of consumers will have a water supply for a period during the day.

Supply will also be turned off to the Twin Towns from midnight until 8.00am each night.
High areas throughout the network will possibly experience poor pressure and flow over the weekend.

Donegal County Council wish to appeal to the public to help us to eliminate wastage by checking vacant properties where internal plumbing may be damaged, checking all field connections, turning off leaking drinking troughs and avoid leaving taps running.  Continued vigilence is necessary as the severe weather is forecast to continue.
Donegal County  Water Services staff remain actively engaged in efforts to maintain and restore water supplies to consumers.

Once again the co-operation of everyone is required if we are to avert widespread shortages in water supplies .
