Donegal bucks national trend with January Live Register increase

The number on the Live Register in Donegal last month increased, in contrast to the national figure,  which saw a slight fall.
There were 21,835 people on the Live Register in Donegal at the end of January, 123 up on the previous month, and 362 up on the figure for January 2010.
Month on month, the highest percentage increase was recorded in Killybegs, with 1,296 on the register, up almost 7%.
There were 2,289 people signing on in Ballybofey at the end of January, up 1% on the December figure. Donegal Town also saw an increase of 1%, with 1,453 on the register there.
In Letterkenny, the increase was 0.6%, with 6,005 people signing on, while there were 4,938 people signing on in Buncrana, an increase of just 0.1%.
The remaining three offices in Donegal saw a slight fall in the numbers signing on, with 1,597 on the register in Ballyshannon, down 1%, 1,650 in Dunfanaghy, also down 1% and 2,207 in Dungloe, down 0.3%.
