31-year-old appears in Court charged with murdering his uncle in Derry

A 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court in Derry charged with murdering his uncle.
James Healy from Hollymount Park in the Gobnascale area of Derry wept as he appeared in court this morning.
56-year-old Christopher McGaughey, was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning. The joiner was given medical treatment at the scene before he was taken to the nearby Altnagelvin Hospital where he died a short time later. A woman – believed to be James Healy’s partner, was also injured in the incident.
Healy was arrested shortly afterwards.
31 year-old James Anthony Healy wept in court as he was charged with the murder of his uncle James Christopher McCaughey at the weekend.
Healy, of 58 Hollymount Park, kept his head bowed throughout a brief appearance at Derry Magistrate’s Court this morning.
He was charged with the murder of Mr McCaughey on October 30 and further charged with the possession of two large knives.
When asked if he understood the charges, the 31 year-old nodded his head.
A Detective Sergeant told the court she believed she could connect Healy to the charges.
A defence solicitor revealed there would be no bail application. Healy was remanded in custody to appear before the court again, via video-link, on November 24.
