Sligo drug seizure echoes last week’s find in Letterkenny

Gardai are continuing their investigations into the seizure of an estimated 8,000 euro worth of drugs in Sligo yesterday in a joint operation with the Revenue Customs Team.
A quantity of Methylethcathinone with an estimated street value of just over eight thousand euro was seized by officers as part of an investigation by the Garda National Drugs Unit yersterday. The drug, otherwise known as MEC, is a synthetic stimulant that is chemically similar to Mephedrone.
The two men – aged in their 20s – are being detained at Sligo Garda Station.
Revenue’s Customs Service has confirmed the seizure was the result of a controlled delivery of a package, originating in China, to an address in Sligo. A similar delivery method had been used in the case where gardai and Revenue personnel seized 140,000 euro worth of the drug in Letterkenny on Wednesday of last week.
Another 70,000 euro worth of the drug was recovered two days later.
