Management at LGH say Higgins recommendations are good for Donegal

Senior Management at Letterkenny General Hospital say the recommendations of the Higgins Report published this week will enhance services to patients, and improve the medical training available in Donegal.
Under the provisions of the report, Letterkenny, Sligo and Mayo will become part of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group.
In a statement, Management at Letterkenny General say they have developed strong links with Galway over the past decade, including the establishment of the Letterkenny Symptomatic Breast Cancer Service as a satellite unit of the designated Cancer Centre at Galway University Hospitals and the creation of the NUI Galway Medical Academy in Letterkenny.
Hospital Manager Seán Murphy says this development supports the vision of providing world class district and regional acute services to the people of Donegal and the North West. He believes inclusion of Letterkeny within the Group structure will complement and enhance the clinical networks that have been developing over the past number of years, as well as allowing for better support and more effective use of resources.
The hospital’s Clinical Director Dr Paul O’Connor saysthese developments will
not only enhance the experience of doctors in training but will also benefit the patients of Letterkenny Hospital.
