Calls for the tourism and leisure potential of River Swilly to be explored

Letterkenny Town Council is being urged to make a start on a programme to utilise the River Swilly as a tourism and leisure amenity.
Mayor Dessie Larkin reminded the council that a plan has been in place for some years to have a walkway linking the Port Road with the Ballymacool Town park, and a substantial sum of money was spent preparing a proposal under the Gateway Initiative, which has subsequently been suspended.
He says the council should approach the minister to seek to have some money released for the project.
But Councillor Jim Lynch says at present, that’s ‘Pie in the Sky’, but a realistic project should be initiated immediately:
