‘Solo Challenge’ from Donegal to Clones to raise money for Donegal Hospice

The event organising committee of the Sandhouse Hotel Solo Challenge had for a long time endeavoured to find a way to adequately bring their relay solo run from Donegal town to a fitting conclusion upon arrival in clones this Sunday at the end of a 120km journey through the night.
Thankfully due to the hard work of some of the provinces finest Gaels a moment to cherish has been provided to one of the solo run participants.
The event organising committee must thank our own club member and Donegal GAA Vice Chairperson Danny Mc Namee as well as Danny Murphy and Ryan Feeney of Ulster GAA.
Also a mention for Derry GAA legend and solo run participant Joe Brolly for any help he may have been in creating this opportunity. It is fitting that each of the participants in the challenge will wear the ‘opt for life’ logo on their shirts, a cause which Joe has spearheaded.
The last runner in the Solo Challenge will enter the playing area in St. Tiernach’s Pairc sometime between both games on Sunday and kick the ball which had been soloed for 120km, by over 100 runners non-stop through the night over the bar in front of the crowd.
A moment to truly remember!!
The final runner is due to be announced in the coming days. This will be the culmination of an event which will raise funds for Naomh Brid GAA and also much needed funds for Donegal Hospice via bucket collections in the 11 towns which we pass during the challenge.
