People are being urged to check in on elderly neighbours or relatives this weekend – as the heatwave continues.
Yesterday was the hottest day so far this year, with the mercury hitting over 30 degrees in south Donegal and county Fermanagh.
Met Eireann has stated that temperatures are expected to fall slightly by the end of the week, however they will remain in the low 20s.
Age Action Ireland says heatwaves in other countries have resulted in increased deaths among older people.
As people in Ireland are not used to this kind of heat, they stated people need to be aware of its dangers and do what they can to protect those most vulnerable.
Older people are being advised to stay cool indoors during the mid-day heat, and ensure they drink plently of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
