The HSE says an initiative to free up frontline ambulances for emergency cases will lead to faster response times in Donegal.
Eight new Intermediate Care Ambulances have been introduced in the North West, four of them based in the Letterkenny region, and extra Emergency Medical Technicians have been hired to operate them.
Bill Forbes is the National Ambulance Services Operations Performance Manager for the North West.
He says emergency ambulances staffed by paramedics will now be able to concentrate on Pre-Hospital Emergency Care calls:
