A Donegal councillor is predicting that next week’s Budget Meeting will be an unprecedented farce which will have to be adjourned.
Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher was speaking after the publication of the council’s proposed 2014 budget book, which anticipates spending of just over 138 million euro next year, with rents and commercial rates being frozen.
However, Cllr Gallagher says with continued uncertainty over the takeover of water services and the failure of Minister Phil Hogan to provide details of the Local Government Fund, the County Manager and Finance Department staff must work off what she says are fictional figures based on hearsay.
She believes it will be impossible to reach any decisions in the absence of detailed government figures:
