Derry City to start 2014 Premier Division away to Shamrock Rovers

airtricity leagueThe 2014 Airtricity League Premier Division Fixture List has been released and the opening series of matches on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8, feature several attractive match-ups.
New Derry City manager Roddy Collins, who led Athlone Town to the First Division title last season, will open his reign with an away game against one of his former clubs, Shamrock Rovers, who, last season, won both the Setanta Sports Cup and the EA SPORTS Cup.
Derry’s first home fixture is against Cork City on Friday 14th March.
League champions St Patrick’s Athletic will begin the defence of their title at Turner’s Cross when they face Cork,  there’s a Louth derby as Drogheda United host Dundalk while the first Dublin derby of the new season will feature UCD against Bohemians.
Athlone, who are back in the Premier Division after 18 consecutive seasons in the First Division, mark their return to the top flight with an away game against FAI Ford Cup holders Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds on Saturday, March 8.
The first round of the EA Sports Cup will take place on Monday, March 10 with the second round on May 5 and 6 and the Quarter-Finals on May 26 and 27. The semi-finals are scheduled for August 5 and the final is on September 20.
The second round of the FAI Ford Cup is scheduled for the weekend of June 8 with the third round on August 24 and the quarter-finals on September 14. The semi-finals will take place on the week-end of October 5 and the final is at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 2.
The mid-season break will take place from June 14 until June 26 inclusive. The Premier Division season will conclude on Friday, October 24.
