Warnings in place as high winds and heavy rain set to hit Donegal this evening

blaneybridgeGale force winds are set to continue over the next 48 hours with Met Éireann forecasting heavy, thundery downpours of rain and hail.
The west is affected by an orange alert, with warnings in particular for extremely high winds in parts of Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick.
While a status yellow wind warning remains for the East of the country and counties Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Tipperary, and Waterford
Forecaster Siobhan Ryan says high winds are here to stay….


Meanwhile the Irish Coast Guard are warning people to stay away from coastal paths and piers as a high tide and high winds hit.
The Garda Traffic Corps Inspector for Co Donegal Inspector Michael Harrison has also warned motorists to exercise “extreme caution” over the next 24 hours.
And  the Harry Blaney Bridge over Mulroy Bay is closed to all traffic due to severe gale force winds.
