Buncrana Mayor Cllr Peter Mc Laughlin says he’s been shafted by Fine Gael folllowing the party’s Inishowen Selection Convention at the weekend.
It was decided to choose three candidates, with the possibility of adding a fourth candidate to the ticket, despite the fact that Cllr Mc Laughlin had put his name forward.
He says another person in Buncrana had been approached by the party and asked to run on the ticket, in what he sees as a blatant attempt to sideline him and keep him off the ticket.
The three sitting councillors Mickey Doherty, Bernard Mc Guinness and John Ryan were chosen as candidates, with Cllr Mc Laughlin leaving the meeting before it went to a vote.
With the number of seats increased to reflect the loss of Buncrana Town Council, Peter Mc Laughlin says picking three candidates makes no sense…………

Meanwhile, Fianna Fail have chosen to run four candidates in Inishowen, with sitting Cllrs Paul Canning and Rena Donaghey being joined by Mary Mc Cauley from Moville and Martin Mc Dermott from Glengad.
