Charlie McConalogue 1A North West TD has called on the government to establish a redress scheme for victims of abuse within the schools system.
Deputy Charlie McConalogues comments come following last weeks landmark judgement from the European Court of Human Rights, which found the state liable for the sexual abuse suffered by Cork woman Louise O’Keefe while a national school pupil.
Deputy McConalogue stated that there are many other known cases of child sexual abuse within the schools system and that the state must act to prevent others from going through similar ordeals to that of Ms O’Keefe.
