UUP MLA descrbes John Downey home coming event as ‘disgusting’

A weekend welcome home event for John Downey has been described as ‘rubbing salt into the wounds’ of the family and friends of those who were killed in the Hyde Park bomb.
John Downey, from Creeslough,  had been charged with the murder of four soldiers who died that day in 1982, but was cleared this week after it emerged he had received a letter stating he was not being sought for the crime.
Mr Downey has always denied any involvement in the Hyde Park Bombings.
A social event is planned for the Lagoon in Termon on Saturday evening to welcome Mr Downey home and thank his supporters for their assistance.
UUP MLA Danny Kinahan, who was best man for one of the victims of the Hyde Park bomb a month before it happened, says he is disgusted by the event:
