Two members of the Cabinet say they have every confidence in the Garda Commissioner.
Martin Callinan is under pressure after the Garda Inspectorate report into the quashing of penalty points.
It found he presided over a dysfunctional system with consistent and widespread breaches.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton and Education Minister Ruairi Quinn say Mr. Callinan has their full support.
“We have every confidence – and somebody could say we have a part of the the Garda Siochana system that isn’t working satisfactorily, they’ve conducted a report into it and now they’re going to implement changes” he said.
“That’s the action of somebody who’s very confident and comfortable in their own position” he added.
