Philip Deignan narrowly missed out on his first Team Sky win after producing a strong breakaway performance on the second stage of the Tour de Suisse on Sunday.
The Letterkenny rider took second place on the run in to Sarnen, with Cameron Meyer of Orica-GreenEdge edging Deignan out in a three-way sprint for the line which also included Lawrence Warbasse.
The trio were part of a group who at one stage had a five minute advantage on the peleton.
Deignan’s efforts saw him climb to seventh on the overall standings.
Tony Martin retained his grip on the yellow jersey.
