Gillick follows O’Rourke into retirement

david gillick 0714Another of Ireland’s leading track athletes has announced their retirement today. Just a week after Derval O’Rourke confirmed that she was hanging-up her spikes, David Gillick has also announced that he’s calling time on his career.
The national indoor and outdoor 400 metre record holder turns 31 next month and says that he feels that the time is right to move on after 10 years as a professional athlete.
The Dubliner was forced to endure an injury-plagued career that saw him miss the London Olympics with a calf injury but he did compete in Beijing in 2008 and his best achievements were his two European indoor titles in 2005 and 2007.
