A man has been jailed today at Derry Magistrate’s Court after he bit a police officer causing what District Judge Barney McElholm described as being among the worst cases he has seen.
26 year old Anthony Feeny of Moyola Drive in Derry appeared at the local Magistrate’s Court today where he admitted a series of offences.
The court heard that on August 3 police attended the scene of a road accident in the Clooney Terrace area.
Feeney was a passenger in the car and as police inquiries continued at the scene he became abusive despite attempts by his friends to get him away.
He then drank a 10 glass bottle of vodka before pulling down his trousers and underwear and waving his bottom at police.
He was arrested and handcuffed and after he was placed in a police vehicle he tried to head butt an officer.
He then bit an officer in the back breaking skin and drawing blood and it took the officer’s colleagues 20 seconds to pull him off.
Defence counsel Mr. Stephen Chapman said his client recognised his actions were ‘outrageous’, and told the court that Feeney said his head was gone.
Feeney was jailed for nine months.
