Councillor says 95 year old patient should have been brought home by ambulance

The family of a 95 year old man have criticised Letterkenny General Hospital after he was refused the use of a non-emergency ambulance following discharge.
The cancer patient, who requires the use of a wheelchair, attended the hospital following a referral from his GP, but when he was discharged later that evening, he was refused the use of an ambulance and told he would have to make use of a wheelchair accessible taxi instead.
His family have said that the man arrived home at around 2.30 am and also alledge that staff discharged the patient without properly removing a cannula from his arm.
