Letterkenny Gaels G.A.A. Club will be the proud host of the Comhdhail Bhliantúil, 2015 County Convention to be held in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny next Sunday, 13th December with proceedings set to get underway at 2pm. This is the first occasion in the Club’s history to have this honour and speaking today, Club PRO, Mark McFadden stated:
“Our Club Executive have been busy finalising arrangements in consultation with Noreen Doherty, County Administrator and the Hotel Management. Letterkenny Gaels looks forward to welcoming Sean Dunnion, Chairperson, Members of the County Executive, Delegates from all 40 Clubs and representatives of the Media to what we hope will be a successful Convention”.
Founded in 1996, the Gaels have made great progress in their short history and now boast excellent playing facilities at Páirc na nGael and a Club House consisting of 6 Dressing Rooms developed jointly with Letterkenny Rugby Club. Some work remains to be done to complete the facilities.
The Club has been pleased, where possible, to host various County Development Squads and the County Senior Footballers all of whom have remarked on the excellent facilities.
The recent finishing works to the second floor Gaels Club Room has enabled the Club to provide fitting hospitality to visiting Clubs for the various Blitzes and other Club events including the recent successful staging of the Sam Cree Play, Widows’ Paradise.
Letterkenny Gaels have continued to grow and develop to the point where it now fields Football Teams at all underage levels and two at adult level, Hurling Teams up to and including Under 16, Underage Ladies Football and Camogie, all of whom have enjoyed various successes which bodes well for the future. Children get their first experience of Gaelic Games in the Under 6 Nursery and the opportunity to develop their skills and talents with the expert assistance of qualified Coaches. Several underage players have been selected for County Football, Hurling and Camogie Development squads and have represented the Club at inter-county level.
The Under 21 Gaelic Footballers won the County Under 21B Championship in 2011 and many of these players form the basis for the current Senior Football Team who were crowned 2014 Division 4 League Champions and have just completed their first season in Division 3.
Letterkenny Gaels are also active in the promotion of the Irish Language and traditional Irish Music in the GAA annual Scór competitions with some success this year.
