Donegal’s hurlers were relegated from Division 2B on Saturday following a narrow one-point defeat against Division 3A champions Roscommon.
The two sides now swap places, with Donegal dropping down into Division 3A and Roscommon going up to Division 2B.
The match at James Stephens Park in Ballina ended Roscommon 3-13 (22) v 4-9 (21) Donegal.
Roscommon had led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time.
Donegal hit back strong in the second half to fire home four goals, with three coming from Paddy Hannigan.
But, in the end, Donegal lost this Allianz NHL promotion-relegation play-off due to a point in the 73rd minute from Ronan O’Mara.
