Donegal jockey wins at Ascot Champions’ Day

Martin Harley
Donegal jockey Martin Harley had unfancied winner today in the first race at Ascot Champions’ Day.
Martin, from Letterkenny, beat hot favourite Order Of St George to win on 11/1 shot Sheikhzayedroad.
He claimed the 1.25 Quipco British Champions Long Distance Cup ahead of second placed Quest For More.
Harley (pictured) said: “He’s very tough and delivers on the big days. They didn’t go very quick, but I was happy with my position and I was just hoping one wouldn’t come up my side as he over races a bit.
“When they go steady it’s hard to get him to relax, but he’s done well and full credit to the horse – my God he’s tough.”
He added: “My lad’s won over shorter so I knew he had a change of gear and I’m very pleased with the way he’s picked up.
“A furlong down I knew I had the front two covered, but he doesn’t want to get there too soon.”
The winner and Quest For More were prominent in a modestly-run race while Order Of St George finished fourth.
