A Northern Ireland side, that included four north west players, started their European U21 qualification campaign with 2-1 win over Estonia on Thursday.
David Parkhouse from Strabane scored on his debut as Ireland came from behind to win 2-1.
He bagged the equalising goal in the 74th minute and was then fouled in the area in the 94th minute as Northern Ireland won it from the penalty spot.
Letterkenny’s Dale Gorman who plays his football with Stevenage and Derry’s City’s Conor McDermot started the tie which was also the first game for the new manager, former Sligo Rovers boss Ian Baraclough.
The fourth player from the region was Jamie McGonigle, the Coleriane man played the last thirteen minutes.
Northern Ireland will also face Albania, Iceland Slovakia and Spain in the their other group games.
