Up to 500,000 attend Phoenix Park mass


Up to half a million people are attending mass in the Phoenix Park – on the second and final day of Pope Francis’s trip.
Earlier the Pontiff visited Knock in County Mayo where he spoke about the impact of clerical child sex abuse.
20 thousand people from around the world are among the half a million here in the Phoenix Park for the last event of Pope Francis’s whirlwind tour.
Earlier crowds waved and cheered as the Pontiff made his way around the park on the pope-mobile.
One of the women at the centre of the Cervical check scandal will be among those bringing offertory gifts to the altar.
Emma Mhic Mhathuna and her five children will join Olive Foley – the widow of former rugby international Anthony Foley – along with the family of one those killed in the Omagh bombing.
Earlier the Pope visited Knock Shrine in County Mayo where he spoke about the open wound of clerical sex abuse – telling a crowd of 45 thousand that there’s a need to be firm and decisive in pursuing justice.
Pope Francis is due to leave Ireland shortly after six this evening.
