Busy weekend for Lough Swilly RNLI

Lough Swilly RNLI had a busy weekend.

The rescue service responded to 4 call outs over a 24 hour period.

On Friday evening, just after 5pm, the Inshore Lifeboat Crew was tasked to reports of a small craft on rocks near Leenakeel which turned out to be a false alarm.

In the early hours of Saturday morning at 1.39am, the Inshore Lifeboat Crew was again tasked to a boat stuck on a sand bank near Fahan marina with two persons onboard.

The boat freed itself and the crew was stood down.

Later, shortly before 4:45pm, the All Weather Lifeboat Crew was paged to a yacht with a tangled propeller near Inishtrahull.

The yacht resolved the issue and as the crew made their way back up the Swilly, they were tasked at 5:28pm along with the Inshore Lifeboat after a man struck a rock diving from rocks near Portsalon Pier.

The casualty was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.
