Great welcome back for Mona McSharry

There was a great turnout in Ballyshannon on Thursday evening to welcome home Olympian Mona McSharry.

The Grange, Co. Sligo native, is a former student at Coláiste Cholmcille College in Ballyshannon and came up through the ranks with the Ballyshannon Marlins Swim Club.

The town was thronged for the occasion, and the talented swimmer, who was the first Irish person to reach a swimming Olympic final in 25 years, was given a great welcome.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, there will be an official homecoming in Grange at about 6pm.

Team Ireland athlete Chris O’Donnell, who is from north Sligo as well, will be flying in on Saturday afternoon after his Olympic experience and Mona is flying out to the USA again in the early hours of Sunday.
