Residents in Derry and Strabane urged to be vigilant of suspicious callers

Police in Derry City and Strabane are urging residents to be vigilant after reports of suspicious callers to homes in the city this week.

They are appealing to people to report any suspicious activity.

Police received a report on Tuesday about a man calling to a home purporting to be from ‘The Water Board’. On Wednesday, it’s believed a man arrived at a property in the Adelaide Avenue area of Derry just before 1pm and offered to carry out work on the house. The man was reported to have spoken with what was described as a southern accent and was driving a white transit van.

Detective Sergeant Ballentine is urging people to report any suspicious activity of strangers offering unsolicited services or trying to gain access to homes.

Police say the sooner they are contacted, even if it is on the behalf of others, the better their chances are of catching a potential criminal.
