Investigation ongoing into Bridgend fish kill

An investigation is ongoing into a fish kill where 14 trout were killed in a river close to Bridgend.

The fish kill was discovered by a member of the public on Tuesday last on the Skeoge River in the Townland of Bunnamayne, Bridgend.

The member of the public who discovered the fish kill said they observed a grey colouration in the water the day before finding the dead fish.

However, at the time of the investigation Inland Fisheries Ireland staff observed no signs of colouration in the stream, but said heavy rain may have flushed the stream clear.

The Skeoge River flows Southwest through Bridgend, Burnfoot and the Grianan estate before joining the Burnfoot river, and then entering Inch Lake.

Local Cllr Terry Crossan said it is essential incidents like this are reported as fast as possible……
