Mica testing criteria needed so Council can buy houses again – McMonagle

Donegal County Council is set to request an emergency meeting with the housing department to demand that the authority be allowed to purchase much needed homes in the county.

The Council is reportedly not allowed to buy homes currently due to the mica crisis, and a lack of testing criteria available to assess houses before purchase.

However, Cllr Gerry McMonagle says the council should be allowed to purchase homes that are negative for mica/pyrite and other deleterious materials.

He says proper testing criteria need to be put in place to help tackle the housing shortage in the county:
