Worrying time for farmers as production costs increase 20%

A Donegal potato farmer says it is a very worrying time for the sector with production costs increasing by 20%.

The Irish Farmers Association recently warned that the increased cost may lead to fruit and vegetables becoming more expensive in shops.

Charlie Doherty, from Burt says farmers are also struggling with the cost of electricity, fuel and supplies.

He says it’s an unsettling time as he’s unsure if the consumer will pay for the product if prices continue to rise:
