Planning permission has been granted for Donegal’s first columbarium at Ards Friary.
A columbarium, for the interment of ashes, will be erected at the Ard Mhuire Capuchin Friary, Creeslough.
Donegal County Council granted the planning permission for the erection of the external columbarium.
Planning permission was applied for by Brother Philip Baxter and was recently approved meaning that people who wish to be cremated can have their ashes interred in the grounds at the Friary.
The applications details the erection of an external columbarium with a natural stone and smooth concrete render envelope housing bronze plated columbarium niches.
The suggested location for the facility is behind the community cemetery in Ards.
The application followed discussions between the Ards community and Eternum Columbarium, a Belfast based company which specialises in building columbaria.
Founder Joseph O’Neill has welcomed the news that planning has been approved..
