
Monaghan’s defence of Ulster’s Dr McKenna Cup began with a 2-10 to 12-point loss to Down on Wednesday night.
Goals from Andrew Gilmore and Odhran Murdock earned the Mourne County victory in Castleblayney.
Down’s next opponents will be Donegal in Newry on Sunday.

Peter Harte and Cathal McShane scored three-points apiece as Tyrone ran out comfortably winners over Fermanagh at Healy Park.
It finished 17-points to 1-7 winners in Omagh in favour of the home side who will be back in action next Wednesday when they play Ulster champions Derry.
In the nights other game, Armagh were too good for Antrim, storming to a 2-20 to 2-8 win in front of over 4,000 spectators at the Athletic Grounds.
