The Irish Prison Service has confirmed that there was a death in custody this morning.
The person has not been named, but we understand the death took place in Castlereagh Prison, and it was a man in his 20’s from Donegal.
The prison service says next of kin have been notified.
In a statement, the Irish Prison Service says the death will be investigated by themselves, the Inspector of Prisons and An Garda Síochána, where circumstances warrant.
