Aontu says figures released to the party show the extent to which patients who are clinically discharged from Letterkenny University Hospital have to remain in hospital beds there.
Letterkenny representative Mary T Sweeney says the lack of home care packages or residential care are the main reasons why patients who should go home are in fact stuck in hospital.
On the 24th of last month, there were 31 such patients identified in Letterkenny, and 29 patients in Sligo.
Of those, five patients in Letterkenny were there between four and six months, with two patients in Sligo staying for the same time, two between six and 12 months, one there between one and two years, and one for more than two years.
Ms Sweeney says more investment in home care packages is vital………….
