A Foyle MLA says untreated endometriosis represents a financial and social cost to society.
A motion came before the Northern Ireland Assembly this week calling for the establishment of specialist services to diagnose and treat the condition.
Sinead McLaughlin claims the severe lack of diagnoses is keeping families in poverty with women unable to work.
